Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club Goes Solar
The Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club (QBLBC) has added 40 solar panels and 18 kWh of battery storage to their facility, making them one of the first community recreation clubs on Vancouver Island to invest in clean energy independence.
QBLBC is the only lawn bowling facility in North America with both an outdoor and an indoor green under one roof, meaning its BC Hydro bill had always been the club’s largest operating expense. The switch to solar transforms that cost into a long-term asset: within a few years, the installation will have paid for itself, with the savings going right back into the club.
Our team at Hakai Energy Solutions, a SkyFire Energy company, designed and installed the full system.
“Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club is showing real leadership by taking control of their own energy future,” says Jason Jackson, Hakai founder. “They’re setting an example for clubs and organizations across Vancouver Island that clean, local energy is a smart investment in the future of their community.”
The battery storage component was a practical decision too. Last year, a power outage during a league play forced a stop mid-match. With 18 kWh of storage now in place, the next winter outage won’t shut down a tournament mid-game.
This is the kind of project we love being part of: practical, community-driven, and built to last. Read the full story on SkyFire Energy or check out the coverage in Parksville Qualicum Beach News.
