Hybrid Energy Systems for Remote Off-Grid Lodges

Smart, reliable off-grid power is what makes the coast hospitable. We’ll help you take control of your energy costs with our proven power generation options.

Reliable energy solutions for the most remote locations

Hybrid systems take energy from multiple sources – from solar to diesel to wind – and turn it into a single, reliable power grid. An advanced integration system ensures steady power supply for your lodge, regardless of which inputs are generating power.

Hakai Energy is nationally recognized as an early adopter of next-generation hybrid energy system designs. Employing deep trade experience coupled with renewable energy expertise, we have the background to deliver an advanced power system of the highest standard.

There are four parts of a hybrid energy system:

1. Energy Generation

Hybrid energy systems can harness power from multiple sources. Rather than put the whole burden on diesel generators, integrating renewable energy will deliver lower energy costs.

The diesel generator is automatically controlled as a slave to the system to supply energy deficits. This approach ensures that generator run times are reduced to an absolute minimum. This, in turn, produces savings by vastly reducing the cost of generator maintenance and increasing the time between replacements.

2. Battery Storage

Surplus power is stored in battery banks, allowing the system to utilize renewable energy first. The system monitors the state of the battery bank, continually adjusting charging states to maximize energy production. The system automatically conditions the battery bank, maximizing its lifespan.

A hybrid energy system has the ability to control the diesel generator and can capture excess renewable energy in the same moment. The batteries serve as both a consumer and producer of energy, efficiently matching production to demand.

3. Delivery & Control

The system can be designed to deliver energy at multiple standard voltages and phase configurations. Modular by design, capacity can be expanded at later stages as your site demands change.

The system operates automatically, without constant user interaction. Safeguards are in place that allows the ability to take control manually. Total by-pass is achieved with a standard transfer switch should you want to run on diesel generator power directly.

4. Monitoring & Reporting

Monitoring provides insight into your power system’s performance. Discover how renewable energy production offsets expensive carbon-based fuel sources through real-time and historical reporting.

Reporting information helps you identify evolving trends in your energy consumption. Analyze your historical usage and predict your future energy costs.

With such a vital piece of infrastructure, maintenance and support provide peace of mind. Hakai’s off-grid systems are designed to be easy to run and maintain. Using a phone, tablet or PC, the power system can be monitored and controlled remotely, ensuring optimal efficiency and fault-free operation.

Costs of an Off-Grid System

A hybrid energy system takes diverse power inputs and manages them intelligently. Diesel consumption can drop over 75%, putting you in control of your costs. Diesel generators operate at 10 to 25% efficiency with most of the energy being rejected through the exhaust in the form of waste heat. Minimizing generator runtime is a pathway to reducing energy costs.

Flexibility

Hakai’s off-grid power systems take full advantage of whatever power inputs are available on your site – solar, wind, diesel and more – and control them as a single, intelligently integrated system. As your energy demands grow, additional power modules can be coupled into existing infrastructure.

Reliability

Solar panels have the highest reliability factor of any power generation technology. A multilayered power generation system creates redundancy over sole reliance on a set of engine-driven generators. Manage loads and automatically switch between power inputs and battery reserves, creating a reliable, resilient system.
