Our Recent Growth: SkyFire Energy Acquires Hakai Energy Solutions
In January 2026, Hakai Energy Solutions partnered with SkyFire Energy, significantly expanding our capabilities and reach:
- Installation capacity increased by over 25 MW annually
- Added 86 certified solar technicians and electricians to our team
- New service offerings:
- Utility-scale solar
- Project development
- Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services
- Expanded service coverage to include all of Vancouver Island and Western Canada
- Enhanced commercial and institutional project capabilities, including a dedicated and experienced O&M services team.
About SkyFire Energy
Founded in 2001, SkyFire Energy has completed over 9,000 solar installations across Canada and boasts 25 years of experience in renewable energy, large-scale project delivery, and advanced energy storage solutions. This acquisition strengthens Hakai’s ability to serve clients throughout Western Canada while maintaining the local expertise, relationships, and values that have defined our work since the beginning.
Company Milestones
2010 – Founded in Cumberland, BC, to serve Vancouver Island and the coastal regions of BC
2011 – Officially launched as Hakai Energy Solutions
2011 – Designed and constructed Canada’s largest off-grid solar project
2012 – Developed and deployed dozens of remote micro-generation plants in remote environments
2012 – Completed one of BC’s earliest residential grid-connected solar installations
2013 – Developed first remotely deployable containerized energy system
2015 – Completed first major commercial grid-connected solar installation
2015 – Expanded commercial-scale projects in the Lower Mainland, Okanagan, and Cariboo regions and beyond.
2019 – Completed Vancouver Island’s largest rooftop solar array on Central Saanich Fire Hall #1
2020 – Completed Vancouver Fire Hall No. 17, Canada’s first zero-carbon certified fire hall
2023 – Opened Victoria office, now covering all major Vancouver Island cities.
2024 – Completed BC’s largest grid-connected municipal solar project at New Westminster Aquatic and Community Center.
2025 – Reached 1500 completed installations across Western Canada
2026 – Acquired by SkyFire Energy, joining forces with Canada’s largest employee-owned renewable energy company
